- Alsey Middleton b. abt. 1802 daughter of John & Hannah Middleton
Information that I have put together as a possibility for Alsey. Alsey is listed in her father's will written in 1841 as we had decided possible last names were Austin, Susten, Sutten, Lister..... I have compared the letters that were written as her last name and decided the first letter was most probable an L. While searching for the maiden name of another family member I came across this marriage and possibilty that this was Alsey Middleton that had first married a Lister/Linster and was marrying Winfree. North Carolina Marriage Collection, 1741-2004 about Alice Linster Name: Alice Linster Spouse: Hardin Winfree Marriage Date: 22 Feb 1842 Marriage County: Guilford Marriage State: North Carolina Source Vendor: County Court Records - FHL # 0536823-0536828 Source: Family History Library, Salt Lake City, UT
- Father: Monroe Virgil Winfree b: 28 FEB 1889 in Guilford County, North Carolina
Mother: Annie Mae Stigall b: 9 OCT 1894 in North Carolina
M V Winfree is the grandson of Hardin Winfree and Catherine Durret Stanfield. After the Death of Catherine before 1840 Hardin married Alice (Alsey) Linster (Lister). This is the one that sent the marriage document on and think there is a good possibility that this could be our Alice Middleton, sister of James Middleton that was mentioned in her father's will but we have been unable to locate. Hardin Winfrey is single in the 1840 Guilford Census, married to Alsey in the 1850, and 1860 Stokes County Census and Alsey Winfrey is listed in the household of Wyatt Winfree as in family in Bruce Township, Summerfield, Guilford Co. in the 1870 census. Hardin died in 1869, Guilford Co. They lived very close to the Olivers. This Wyatt Winfrey is the son of Hardin Winfrey and his first wife. The Olivers are also buried in the same Cemetery as several Winfreys.
I came upon this searching for the family of Sally Hicks that we feel is Lucy's sister that married Robert Hicks listed as bondsman on James and Lucy's marriage. There is a John Stewart Winfrey that married Anna Eliza Hicks that I think was Sally Grisham and Robert Hicks daughter. Their are three Hicks children along with Sally listed in various homes in the census in 1850 Guilford County. I believe their names are Elizabeth, Catherine and Wlliam.
Each time I see this Sally Hicks listed it mentions in the census that she was born in Granville. In the 1870 Guilford Census she is listed in the family of this John Stewart and Ann (Anna Eliza) Winfrey family and is listed as in family.
Found the attached file that mentions the family of Elizabeth Ogburn that owned the land at one time where the Middleton gravesite is and it mentions a Winfree. I had notice early today while looking through census's that a Lucy Winfrey lives just above the Olivers in 1870 Guilford Census. In 1850 she and her familty are listed on the same page as Isaac Lee, Parishes and Pegram's.
Shows parents of Lucy Winfrey/Winfree as being Thomas Winfree and Tabitha Parish
