Thomas Jr. was born 1785 per 1850 census so he would have been 55 in 1840. The female 70-79 could have been his mother, Nancy Baskett Middleton who would have been 72 in 1840. Also in the 1850 census he had listed to girls ages Agnes 19 and Nancy 25. Their ages match females that are listed in this census. Who were the two males one 10-14 and one 15-19 and also 2 females 20-29?

1850 Washington County Texas Census, Jno Middleton and 2 girls A. A. age 9, and Catherine age 7
This is John W. Middleton with two girls that were the daugthers of Leonidas Benijah Aldridge and wife Susan Morgan Scurry Aldridge. Susan is found living in another household close by with the wife of John W. Middleton and his children along with Elizabeth White Garland Aldridge the mother of Leonidas and my assumption is that Sarah, wife of John, is the sister of Leonidas and this is also her mother.
